Low Pressure Mercury

Low pressure mercury lamps function by converting the ultra-violet light emitted by the primary discharge into visable light by the use of an internal phosphor coating, which can provide different colour temperature light outputs.

Low pressure mercury lamps have many applications, but are being replaced by LED type lamps, which are instant-on and do not contain mercury.

Philips QL Lamp

Launched in 1991 Philips' QL was the first commercial induction lighting system which offered an exceptionally long service lifetime of 100,000hrs, due to the electrode less design. The QL system is comprised of the light generating discharge vessel, an antenna to couple power into the lamp, and an HF generator to drive the antenna.
