LEDs were not a practical light source when they were first developed and only suitable for use in electronic applications as indicator devices. Further developments in semiconductors led to LEDs becoming a practical light source, but with limitations (one colour temperature) which was unsuitable for mood lighting in a domestic application. Later advances in LED technology has led to a wide range of colour tempratures available and LED lamps with the abilty to be dimmed too.
